Crochet Utility Sleeve by SadDaysCrochet Crochet Utility Sleeve by SadDaysCrochet
Ha. So. Do you keep misplacing your tools while you're crocheting? I thought it might just be me because I crochet lying down so much, but I know that :iconpickleweasel360: has this problem too because she just left a comment about it, so maybe it is a universal problem? And it drives me crazy, because the reason I crochet lying down is because sitting or standing up hurts, so when I can't find my damn scissors and have to get up and shake everything to find them again it is very counter-productive.

So I have invented the Crochet Utility Sleeve. I am sure this has been invented by lots of other people before me, but I haven't seen them so I am inventing it too.

It is pretty straight forward. It's a sleeve. I used four different yarns and four different hook sizes so that I could fit all my differently sized hooks scissors needles and other accouterments in snugly without them slipping out all over the place.

It's great. My life is better already. I recommend you all make your own- I seriously doubt you need a pattern but if you want pointers I will happily supply them in the comments section. When you make them you should post pictures too! We can start a new fad. Be careful when sticking the scissors in, they are sharp.

I haven't contributed any mad science to scraps in ages, have I? There will be more soon. I'm being very prolific.

Way cool! I also crochet lying down, but I don't think I should try and make a sleeve like that from wire

Well I considered a more complicated design with an additional internal sleeve (either of fine crochet or fabric) that would prevent accidental stabbings. I was lazy and didn't bother though... if you're careful you can tuck the scissors in one hole and out another, so the point doesn't come in contact with your skin. This is a less risky solution for me, because otherwise I stick hooks scissors and needles any and everywhere (bras are padded so you can stick needles in them, right?), so at least this way I am only stabbed in one place. =P

lol...this is bcause im not careful at all :)
But you give me and idea: create a big and crocheted hand to put on the table. That hand would be the accidented one, and not mine :P

Very clever! I haven't mastered the art of crocheting lying down. Don't your arms get tired? Or do you lie on your side?

They used to get tired- they still do after about three hours, but I can push through it. =P Endurance crocheting! That's where it's at. Crochet muscles are the only muscles I have these days, but damn are they strong!

WOW That is an incredible idea. I've actually had to rebuy hooks from misplacing them, which is extremely frustrating.
Brilliant. Will get on this right away.

I've worked out a method of sticking the sharp ends in and then out again so they don't. But. I'm less careful than I should be. It's still better than loosing them and stabbing yourself by sitting on them though!

First thing I thought of was "Armed and dangerous!" Lol!

I crochet sitting cross-legged for the most part. It forces me to get up and stretch my legs out every so often :P and makes me sit up straight when I craft. I have an issue with loosing my scissors usually. I can be sitting in the middle of the room and look all over the place for my "missing" scissors, which I usually end up finding sitting between my ankle and leg! I mean, there's only so far they can go in 2 square feet, right?

The other issue I have is balls of yarn "eating" my hooks and yarn needles. It's really my own fault for sticking them in the ball before I throw it into my yarn bag! Lol! I have found supplies hidden in balls of yarn like a year later!

I think the fact that these things get lost in no space at all is why it's all so agonizing. It should not be possible to lose these things! It is the work of evil fairies! But I have never had my yarn eat my hooks before. That is a whole new genre of problem! one that I will now take steps to avoid. :D
